This painting is about when my mother, who at the age of 19-21 was in prison, became free and looking at her 11 fellow female prisoners and friends who were executed while they were all in prison together. The birds in this painting are a symbol of innocence and purity. Each bird is representative of the character and virtue which each of the women had. For example, generosity, flexibility, kindness, caring, wisdom. I am showing these virtues through their flight. My mother is looking at this crisis and thinking of their priceless steadfastness.
